Would you know how to recognise the signs if someone was suffering from a stroke?
The NHS’s campaign FAST helps us to remember the key signs and re-enforces the need to act quickly and can help save a life and limit the long-term effects of a stroke.
Face – has their face fallen on one side? Are they able to smile?
Arms – can they raise their arms and keep them there?
Speech – is it slurred?
Time – if you notice any of these signs, then call 999
There are also other symptoms that may occasionally be due to a stroke, they include:
- Sudden loss of vision or blurred vision in one or both eyes
- Sudden weakness or numbness on one side of your body (including your leg)
- Sudden memory loss or confusion
- Sudden dizziness, unsteadiness or a sudden fall, especially with any of the other symptoms
